Wednesday January 27th
Hey thanks everyone who came out to the closing party for Unnecessary Mountain. It was a nice mellow time. Aidan Knight performed as well, who really took charge of creating a fantastically good vibes environment.

Non-art, band news: The Sun Wizard Gang is playing cupid for Valentine's Day at the Biltmore Cabaret on Saturday February 13th. We get to play with Makeout Videotape, who make you want to play Jonathan Richman on repeat!
FDGT (Friends Doing Good Things) update:
The Cheaper Show No.9 is now accepting submissions until March 1st. The huge art event will take place in June 2010, with 200 artists taking part. Each piece is priced at $200, allowing art to be affordable to all.
Mr. Toby Reid has an art blog! He updates it quite often too which is a plus for me and you.
The Gene Doe project is a photography and film production company that creates visual communication for fashion designers. Their website is soon.
Solars are playing this Friday at VIVO on Main St. for Fake Sleep 5. Should good be good, then this is good.
Monday January 4th
It's 2010! We made it! Happy New Years everyone.
This is just a quick update to inform you that my show, Unnecessary Mountain at Sitka Vancouver's space will be up for an extended two weeks. There will be a closing party on Thursday, the 21st with classy servings in the wine and cheese department.
And watch this video of the mural that I did for the exhibition.
Happy birthday, Chad Blue!
Tuesday December 1st

Busy week. Here's the flyer for a selection of work that I'm putting up in Sitka Vancouver's gallery space. The show is in cahoots with Sitka's grand opening(1864 West 4th Ave), this Thursday at 8pm.
If you live in Victoria, Sun Wizard is performing tomorrow in Victoria with The Blue Violets and Rolla Olak at Sugar Nightclub. And next Monday:
Come out to this show at the Media Club! Luke Top is the performing songs with his bandmates from Fool's Gold backing him up! It's going to be bonkers.
One more thing: there is this great Christmas party, called Mental Beast, combining many many Vancouver bands and comics at the Biltmore on Friday, December 18th. Follow the link for more info.
Monday November 16th

Many moons have passed, well perhaps 3, since I've last brought anything to your attention. For the past while, I've been travelling through India and have not been around computers all that much.
Now that I'm back, I'll be updating the site more consistently. Until then there're a few notable events in Vancouver you may be interested in:
Sun Wizard will be releasing an EP, "Maybe They Were Right", this Friday at the Media Club featuring friends Certain Breeds and the Faraway DJ's. Tickets are $8 at the door.
Friend Andrew Pommier is exhibiting work in the group drawing show, Drawing on Vancouver on Thursday, November 19th at Walrus Shop on Cambie. Ben Tour and Porous Walker are also featured.
Friend Toby Reid is showing a collection of illustrations called Maybe We're Not Strangers Anyway at Antisocial on Friday the 20th.
Sitka will be opening the doors to their second flagship store in Vancouver on Tuesday, December 1st on West 4th/Cypress. The store will feature a gallery as well, which I will be hanging and doing an installation for. Please attend the grand opening on Friday, December 4th.
Saturday August 29th

Good day to you, friend of the internet. It's the last weekend of August and the second last weekend of wearing white! I hope that you're summer was good and full of swimming and camping, dear friend. Of the internet.
I got some news for you. Us Sun Wizards are opening for Seattle's Cave Singers at the Biltmore(in Vancouver) next Saturday, September 5th. It's an early show...we'll more than likely be playing at 8:45, not joking! My friend Lindsey made this great poster!
And afterwards, on the 6th there is this free event called Safari with bands performing in parks across East Vancouver, like Certain Breeds, No Gold, and Andy Dixon. It'll be great.
And if you're in Victoria this weekend, stop by the Sitka shop on Yates St for a charity BBQ. They're donating the proceeds to Pacific Wild, who defend wildlife and habitat along the Pacific West Coast. Go have a veggie dog for me!
Wednesday August 5th

If you live on the West Coast of Canada, there's this little festival happening on Saturday, August 8th that is worth checking out in Nanaimo, BC. There're loads of good Vancouver bands making the trek across the Straight of Georgia to perform at this fundraising event for cystic fibrosis research. Sun Wizard is playing around 6, and I think Adelaide goes on at 3. See you there?
Thursday July 23rd

The Late Summer 2009 copy of SBC is out in racks now. I'd have to say it's their best issue since reworking the magazine a while back. Not because I have a spot on the contributers page. Be sure to look for other illustrations by Pommier and my old friend Jon Izen as well.
Sunday July 19th
It's early Sunday morning and I'm thinking banana pancakes. Sounds good right?
Before I do that, I wanted to let you know that I posted many new illustrations and artwork and design up. All over the place. Other than that, the only big news that I'm going to India with my brother in the fall! And one of my bands, Sun Wizard is recording at the Hive next week.
Now for those pancakes...
Wednesday July 9th
It's been 2 whole months since updating the site, so I figured I should do so...even if it's brief. I just posted a design on Finroo, a t-shirt site. Go check it out, and buy one if you're down.
I've got lots of art to put up, but I'll do that another time. Soon.
And if you're in Vancouver next week, come out and see one of my bands, The Shilohs open for Destroyer at the Biltmore on July 17th.
Saturday May 9th
This is 6 days after the fact, but DO_INK has been postponed until the 24th of May. It's still taking place at Little Mountain Studios, same time. LMS got a little bit double booked.
In other non-related news, I just completed a 6 month long project and am feeling pretty happy about that. It's a children's book called Runaway Alphabet and Simply Read Books will be releasing it in the Fall/Winter season.
Sitka just opened a new store at 2nd/Lonsdale in North Vancouver and it's grand opening is this weekend. If you're in the hood go swing by and check out my window display but more importantly, get a free hot dog!
Here's an article that was posted on Vice a few weeks ago where I'm getting cornered by an ex-girlfriend about still being friends.
M'man Andrew Pommier recently relaunched his website and it is looking sharp! Actually his artwork could make any redesigned website look sharp.
And if you're in Toronto, please go see my sister's drawing installation at Gallery 1313...it is beautiful to say the least and I'm not just saying that cuz we're blood!
Monday April 13th

Finally, after over a year of absence, Do_ink returns! The drawing social will be held up at Little Mountain Studios on Sunday, May 3rd. Paper will be provided but bring whatever it is that you like to draw with. A big thanks to Max F for designing the flyer.
If you're up in Whistler for the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival this weekend, be sure to come check out the State of the Art exhibition in the TELUS Whistler Conference Centre. I'll be up there painting decks in the Sitka booth. Pals Andrew and Derrick will be up there too! I'm thinking that it's going to be a fun weekend.
And on Sunday, we Sun Wizards are opening up for Vetiver at the Biltmore.
One more thing: there's a new art community space that just opened it' doors in Vancouver last week! Goonies is a studio, gallery, and communal space that invites people to organize events and workshops for everybody. Isn't that great? They'll be hosting musical events too, which is good because Vancouver's music venue situation is just ridiculous.
Tuesday March 24th

Hi Toronto. How are you? From what I hear, the recession is hitting you hard and friends that live there have a hard time finding jobs and ask me if I hear of anything. Can you do something about that? Also can you let people know about the group show JK LOL that me and a bunch of great artists, like Niall McClelland, Erica Beyea and my sister(!!!), are
contributing to? This exhibition is at Studio Nine Gallery at 1400 Queen St West and the opening reception is April 1st, 6 to 9 pm. Thanks, Toronto.
Sunday February 22nd
Hey! I'm in a new band of brothers! We're called Sun Wizard and already have a few shows lined up in Vancouver this spring. The first one is opening for Parisian dudes Herman Dune at the Biltmore on Saturday March 21st. Sun Wizard kinda sounds like a Dylan/Petty love-in, so you're stoked.
Another "Friends Doing Good Things" report: a big congratulations to best bud Kim Ridgewell on designing an award winning advertising campaign featured in the March issue of HOW magazine! HOW is considered the design industry's almanac, so this feature was no small thing. Her firm, ReThink assigned her to design a campaign for a dry cleaner and it's pretty amazing what she did.
And on the topic of magazines, I got some editorial illustrations in the March issues of SBC Skateboard Magazine and Alberta Venture. Check them out if you're into that sort of thing.
The site's been updated with things that I've been working on over the past while too.
Tuesday, February 10th
I'm totally procrastinating work right now to promote friends doing good things. Two of them announced to the world this week of their place on the web:
The People's Program Project is a podcast that my good friend Elly recently started, similar to the This American Life style of podcasting. You can also find it on iTunes.
Ryan Walter Wagner is a very good photographer and redesigned his website. He takes the best pictures of bands.
As for me, I'll update the site soon. In the meantime go check out Simply Read Books' new website and look for the web icons that I did. Books are good.
Thursday, January 15th

HAPPY NEWEST OF NEW YEARS! It's been such a long time since I've said my words, and I feel bad because of it. Well not really. I spent a lot of time with family over the holidays as I'm sure you did too.
Next week in Vancouver is the Fall/Winter 2009 Know?Show tradesow down at Canada Place. If you're heading there to check out all the new clothing stuff, be sure to stop by the Sitka booth and say hi. And check out my new shirts that I did and still haven't posted here. I'm planning on installating something hopefully. So maybe I'll see you there?
Thursday, November 13th
Site updated. Just like I promised.
Tuesday, November 4th

If you are in the Toronto area this Thursday, November 6th please come out and support Breast Friends 4 Life, a fundraiser for the fight against breast cancer put on by Lifetime Collective and Keep A Breast. And take a look for the cast that I did for the event. All this goes down at the Spearmint Pelican Showroom, 58B Fraser Ave.
If you are in the America area today, GO VOTE ALREADY!!! That is, if you are American. Go! Go now!
I will put up new stuff by the end of the week.
Wednesday, October 22nd

I did a little artist profile on Canada's alternative to Fecal Face, King Shit. Go take a read and a viewing and point out my grammatical errors. And also check out the other artist profile features too!
As I've said it before, I'll post some new stuff soon. I'm such a flake.
One thing I should mention well in advance is fellow Sitka artist, Andy Dixon is exhibiting new drawings at the Grace Gallery in Vancouver on Thursday, November 6th. It'll be a good show, indeady.
Wednesday, October 1st
Hey Toronto! There is a book launch tomorrow night for Boredom Fighters!, a publication of 'graphic poetry' by Tightrope Books. My piece, Superboy, is featured. The launch is at Tranzac Club, 292 Brunswick Avenue.
Thursday, September 18th
It's been a while since I've spoken, so I just wanted to say that I'm alive and that I'll show you what I've been working on when I get a real break. But in the meantime, please listen to some local comedians' assenine podcast, Stop Podcasting Yourself.
And if you're in Vancouver this weekend, there are a few worthy openings to check out: Abracadabra book launch at Little Mountain, and COLLAB at Plank Gallery.
Wednesday, August 6th

Go take a sneak preview of the t-shirt series that I did for Sitka's spring 2009 clothing line. My stuff's on page 21.
Monday, August 4th
I just wanted to let everyone know that my old friend Michael Hall is exhibiting a photo show of his travels of the South Pacific and China tomorrow night at the Locus(Main/King Edward). Michael is an exceptional film maker and photographer, who I had the pleasure of traveling with in India a few years back. It should be a good display of amazing pictures.
Also, nearly new dad Michael Undem emailed me about his new website. Go have a look.
Friday, July 18th
Vancouver is great in the summertime. We all forget but then there's that 13 day streak of hotness and everyone's out in full force. Camping, BBQing, beaching, bike riding, etc. It doesn't get much better.
I just wanted to update and say 'hi' and say that I put a few things up that I've been working on the past month since getting back to Canada.
And also, the honorable Matt Day has a photo show next Friday, July 25th at Plank Gallery, 165 East Hastings.
Saturday, June 7th

I'm back in Canada now. After my flight from Paris, I fled to the island pretty quickly to adjust to being back. Kind of a culture shock but not really.
On Saturday, June 21st, I'll be exhibiting new work at the big group show, The Cheaper Show, at 142 Water St. (The old Storyeum building). It starts at 7pm and runs til midnight. One night only. Many, many great Vancouver artists are involved so do your best to come down!
And friends The Green Hour band have their album release party tonight at The Peanut Gallery(436 West Pender). I would be there in a second if I wasn't holed up in Nanaimo.
One more thing: TODAY IS DRAWING DAY 08!!! So go out and draw, draw, draw, and then draw some more.
Tuesday, May 12th
Sorry for the long time no update, peoples. I've been in and out of Berlin for some of last month. And now that it's springy time, there's waaaay more to do outside. Wow. Berlin woke up.
I'm just making a brief update.
There's another drawing social happening tomorrow night (yes, thank me for the heads up) at Ron Telesky's from 7pm till about 10pm. It's at Dieffenbachstrasse 62 in Kreuzberg.
Adelaide went into the Hive without me and recorded some wicked tracks and they put one of those wicked tracks called EAGLES up on that wicked myspace site.
Did I mention that I am in fact moving back to Vancouver at the beginning of June? Well I am. Not that it's completely zen here...I miss the band. It's what makes me 100% stoked. And because VANCOUVER IS AWESOME!
In the meantime, I've been playing with some bros here called PURPLE, featuring a whole bunch of Vancouver expats. Total grunge. We are likely to be playing a pretty rad show at the end of the month but I'll let you know later. But would you really care if you're not in Berlin?
Monday, March 31st
Well well well...it's hard to believe but the German groundhog must've seen his shadow cuz it's finally getting nice n warm here in Berlin. It's about time. Now our days will be spent hanging out along the canels and riding our crap bikes freely around town. And if it goes back to being the angry demon of Winter then I'll just have to enjoy myself this month in Sardinia, won't I?
Today, I put up a lot stuff that I've been working on this past month...a fistfull of shirt designs. Check em.
Announcement: Hey Vancouver! What are you doing April 30th? Some dear friends are screening the debut of their film, Chains of Betrayal, at the Astoria. I saw the dailies last year and it is jamming! Sloop John Scronge Berry's providing the words to beats.
And my pal Andres has updated his website. Dude's supposed to come out and visit me but asked when, he says 'Soon'.
Saturday, March 15th

Heeeeeyyy. If you just so happen to be in Berlin this week, I'm putting on a Do_ink drawing social at Ron Telesky's Pizza. This Wednesday, the 19th at 7pm. It's pretty close to the Kottbusser Tor u-bahn station.
I also posted one of a few illustrations that I did for the April issue of Kiss Machine. There's a bunch of other things that I need to put up here, but I'm short for time at this very moment. Promise that I'll have them up very, very soon.
Spring is here! Can you feel it? Can you FEEL it? The birds and bees'll be in full force soon enough. And we'll be stung and pecked with love.
So my crappy bike got stolen the other day! I wasn't too bummed tho...it was a crappy bike. And I was stupid enough to leave it unlocked in my apartment courtyard. I think it's because the U-bahn's on strike and everyone is feeling a bit stranded. And feeling a bit angry...I saw this dude on a bike push down another dude on a bike. Bike rage! I was stunned.
Sunday, February 4th

I've been busy! That's my excuse for not updating my website since back in 2007 sometime. Sorry.
Okay, so Rene from Sitka emailed me recently to show their new Winter/Fall 2008 catalog that's now online. I did a series called Cabin Fever for the line and they did an amazing job with putting into context with the whole catalog. Go take a look-see. And read the interview I did while drinking Berliner Pilsners.
And my first childrens picture book, My Friend Jamal, is online for pre-order at your favorite online bookshops. Annick Press is publishing it in North America and Alanna Books in the UK.
Adelaide's also been busy while I've been away. They have some tracks recorded at the Shark Tank with Joel, my replacement. More Heart and Midnight Dancer are up on the Myspace site. Whatever happened to Myspace?
This town's still great. I'm loving living in Berlin and taking in the poor bohemian lifestyle that comes with the territory. There's a lot of inspiration to take in, definitely. I have to say that there are some great book shops here to spend hours in, primarily Pro Qm and Neurotitan. If you ever come here, be sure to book off an afternoon and spend at these places.
And you know what else is ruling??? Lost Season 4.
Thursday, December 20th
Guten Tag. I finally got some time in and posted some new drawings that I've done since landing in Europa. This last month has been a big ball of chaos -- setting up the new place, looking for work, and getting projects finally off the ground. The other day I picked up a bike at the flea market for 35 euros! I'm seeing the city in a whole different perspective now. Too bad it's so dark and cold at the present time to really go out and shred.
I just got an email from Color Magazine writer Scott Radnidge about a massive upgrade that he did on his site so go check him out.
Try not to go Xmas shopping. Just make something.
Sunday, December 2nd

Yes, another month goes by an no update. Boo me.
Hey, Anteism just did a big redesign of their website. It's worth checking out because Ryan's been very busy with this cross-continental project called iMyGrate and he's got stuff to show for it on the site.
Anteism's also publishing two books at the same time, one of which is this Manuscribbles. I got a drawing in there, as well as loads of rad peoples like Ben Tour, Luke Ramsey, Niall McClelland, Keith Jones and like a dozen more. You can buy it on the site or some store near you.
Well, I'm in Berlin now. Just got a place today and am about to get back to work on the projects that I have been putting off. I tried to draw as much as possible in the past month that was spent floating around. Once I get a scanner set up, I'll put em up.
I did manage to do some housekeeping over the past few days and put up some stuff. Go find it. Go. Do it.
This town is pretty great. There are tonnes of little art galleries everywhere and other neat little crafty stores. It's so cold -- which is so fitting to the European-ness of the place. I've spent most of the time looking for joe-jobs in order to get some euro in the pocket. Not knowing the Deutch is making it very hard. Oh well. Something'll come up.
One more thing...happy anniversary Ma and Pa!
Tuesday, October 30th

This Friday, November 2nd, Jon-Rae Fletcher is gracing Vancouver with his presence at the Gaff Gallery. I'm very very stoked about him playing. Seeing him play solo (and with the River) is almost like a spiritual experience. Your armhairs raise. He played with Ladyhawk at the Butchershop a few years back and the entire audience was in awe. Too bad the cops pulled the plug halfway through his set. So come down. Adelaide and Chad Blue are playing too. It's an early show so be there by 8:30. My little sister did the lovely poster, all the way from Morocco.
Okay, so I'm moving to Berlin in two weeks. Stating the obvious, I'm very excited about living in Europa and traveling to places that I've never been to before. But I'm not going to stop arting...I mean that's the whole purpose of the trip. Get a bit more international recog, get more inspiration from what's happening there, etc. Anyways, if you want to get in touch, email me. I'll be reachable.
I don't know if I'll be updating anything before I go, so I suppose you'll be hearing from me from there.
Friday, October 12th

I'm taking part in an installation for a Halloween party this year. Look at the line-up! It's going to be a very very nice collaborative piece. I'm stoked.
Have you gone and paid whatever and heard the new Radiohead yet? It's blowing my mind! I think I've listened to it like 12 times in the past 2 days. Hopefully I don't overdo it. I hate it when that happens.
Tuesday, October 9th
You may notice that it takes me forever to do an update. It's not that I don't want to -- things are just crazy busy right now. But busy in a positive way. That's just how I roll.
Anyways, just wanted to let everyone know that one of my best friends, former bandmates, and future Berlin roommate, Chad Blue, is performing a solo show at Hoko's in Vancouver this Saturday, October 13th. He's also opening for us and Jon-Rae at the Gaff Gallery on Friday, November 2nd. Knowing me, I'll more than likely be posting the poster up sooner or later.
And one of my other BFFs, Elly Lev, has an article in today's Globe. I think it's on page A12. It's about Nike Skateboarding.
Berlin is a month away.
Monday, September 3rd
If you live in Canada, pick up a Globe paper today. I have an illustration in the Facts and Arguments section.

Here's a flyer for a group show that I'm in this weekend. It's part of SWARM. Hope to see you there!
Friday, August 24th
This is beginning to become a band site, no? Or at least shameless promotion. But anyways, if you're in Vancouver next week the band's playing at Pats Pub on Thursday. And if you feel really stoked on Pats, go see Lightning Dust play there the night before. Nice poster, Mitch!
I'm contributing some new work for a SWARM 2007 group show at the Gaff Gallery. Opening's Saturday September 8th. It would be lovely if you made it out that night!
Berlin is 2.5 months away.
Thursday, July 18th

I know it's tomorrow, but I thought that I'd advertise for the show that my band's performing at in Vancouver. If you're in town, please come down!
I've updated the site with new work and have more to drop in, but I need to get back to some other things first. I didn't have to go to work today because it's raining out. It's July!!! Why is it raining?!?
The lovely and talented Jill Southern had done a complete overhaul on her website. It's really great, Jilly!
And go check out Matt Day's photo display at Zulu Records, beginning August 1st. I got to "model" for one of his photos. He paid me in Alpha-Ghetti.
Sunday, June 17th
Wow. The art opening was more than I could ask for. It was a real fun time loaded with great friends and good times. I'd like to thank everyone who helped make it an unforgettable night for me. And thanks to all who came out too and enjoyed the art, music and free booze too. Frank was a busy bartender.
Dadabase posted some pics of the night if you're inclined to view. They also put up some sweet videos of my band Adelaide performing too.
It was a crazy month leading up to the exhibition, so now I can relax a bit. Enjoy the sun if and when it comes out again. Anyone interested in getting together and doing a sun dance?
I'll be posted a plethora of new material within the week. Check back.
Sunday, May 20th

I can't believe it's been a month since I last updated the site. Oh well, better late than never, I suppose.
That flyer up there is the invitation to my first solo show that opens on Friday, June 15th at Dadabase. I've been very busy with painting this last month and will be right up until the opening. My new band, Adelaide, will also be performing.
I've dropped a few things around the site. Go for a look-see.
Hey, check out this photo site of this dude who spent some time as an Alaskan crab fisherman. The photos are simply amazing!
Friday, April 20th

Here's a poster that I just did for a great band from New York called Skeletons & The Kings of All Cities. They're playing in Vancouver on Thursday May 10th at Pat's Pub. I'll be there. So should you.
So I'm basically done school. FOR GOOD. The grad show was last Monday and went really well. Met many nice people, and a lot of friends were on hand. And Ma and Pa. It was good. So what's next? I got to start painting for my solo show at Dadabase in June. More details to come on that doo-dad.
Today is website update day. I'm finally gonna drop some design stuff off for you to peruse. And a painting. And I'll put this poster away properly.
It was announced today that my year-and-a-half younger sister has put her illustration/animation/film website up. Right on, Beth, right on.
So once you're done looking at the site, checking your Facebook or whatever, go outside and go for a bike ride. It's sunny out.
Monday, April 2nd

Here's the latest flyer for Do_ink, the monthly drawing social that I host up at Little Mountain Studios. French import Max F designed this fantastic handbill. I know I already said it, but thanks so much Max!!
Be sure to check out my good pal Kim's website -- she just got it up and running like yesterday. Her redesign of Man Man's album "Six Demon Bag" is golden. Speaking of Man Man, they were absolutely ridiculous last night! They are THE live band to see right now. Holy cow! Who else has a jackalope on their high hat stand and rings little bells???
Friday, March 23rd
Hey! My grad class' website is now up if you want to see some good student design and illustration work. Mere weeks until school's out and over. There's so much to do in so little time but it always works out. Even if it means staying up for 3 days straight.
Updates. Um, I posted a sticker that I did for Momentum in the misc. section. There's still a bunch of things that I need to put up so, as per usual, come back. And go to your local store where you buy reading materials and pick up the new Walrus. I got a couple of illos in there.
I'm sleepy. Have a good weekend. Hope you're well.
Tuesday, March 13th
Going public as of -- now.
Y'know when your parents come over to visit, and you didn't have time to clean the house? There's dishes all over the place and the floor needs a sweep. And there's a slice of pizza stuck to the ceiling. Maybe some cat barf somewhere. That's what this feels like. The site's all done, minus some cleaning up. But it's time to let everyone know.
Gulp.
Let me know how goes it. And come back cuz there's a heap of stuff that I still need to post.
A big thanks to Elly and Tyler for helpin out too. I think Elly was going to rip my head off for all the revisions. Changing "notable" to "notably" and all that.
And a happy birthday to Wendy Joanne Bateman. She's 28 today.
Friday, March 9th
Slowly adding more stuff to the site.
Do_ink had a good turn out last night at Little Mountain. So good infact, there weren't enough tables and chairs to go around for a while. If you're interested in coming out to Do_ink, send an email to do.ink.06@gmail.com to get on the mailing list.
Mix tape party at Budgies Burritos tonight. Cash prizes.
Friday, March 2nd
Write-ups are up. I'm just gonna keep chuggin' away at this.
You should check out my sister's short film that she just completed, titled Orpheus and Eurydice.
Thursday, March 1st
This is the first day of the interweb for Benfrey.ca. You should be saying aloud "Welcome to the interweb, Benfrey.ca!" I know I did.
