Ben Frey (b.1978, Calgary, AB) received a diploma in Illustration and Applied Arts at Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design. Recently, Ben has completed RED Academy’s User Interface & Design program.
Frey specializes in illustration but also focuses on UI/UX design and branding practices. His work has been published in the Globe and Mail, Walrus Magazine and Discorder as well as three children’s books for Annick Press and Simply Read Books. Ben has been a contributor to BC NDP, Portland Hotel Society, Vancouver Mural Festival and Sitka Surfboards. He has been featured by Leafly, Vice, Lodown Magazine and NO Magazine.
Although Frey mostly works in commercial art, he has created a body of work in drawing and has exhibited solo shows at Okazi Gallery (Berlin, DE), Revolver Upstairs (Melbourne, AU), Antisocial (Vancouver,BC), Bob Prittie Library (Burnaby, BC), Good Luck Gallery (Vancouver, BC), Electric Umbrella (Nanaimo,BC), Sitka (Victoria, BC) and group shows at The Cheaper Show (Vancouver, BC) and Studio Nine Gallery (Toronto, ON).
Currently, Ben balances his time as an Illustration Instructor for Capilano’s IDEA School of Design, Designer at AvenueHQ, and freelancing. Frey resides with his wife and son on Salt Spring Island, BC.
